The history of development of railways in the territory of Uzbekistan takes its beginning since 1874 when the special commission has recognized the necessary construction of a branch line Oren burg - Tashkent. However, later the decision has been changed - the first steel highway should connect Tashkent with the east coast of the Caspian Sea. Construction of Caspian railway has been started in November, 1880. After five years builders have reached Ashkhabad, and in 1886 - Chard Zhou. In May, 1888 when the wooden bridge through Amu Darya has been erected, movement up to Samarkand has opened. In 1899 the road has reached Tashkent. The district from station Ursatjevskaja to Fergana valley has simultaneously been constructed also. At the end of IX century again there was a question on construction of road from Tashkent up to Oren burg which construction have started in the autumn of 1900 simultaneously from Tashkent and Oren burg. In January, 1906 the road Tashkent - Oren burg has entered in build, having opened for Central Asia a direct output to the Central Russia. In post-war years the railway men of Uzbekistan accepted active participation in restoration of the national economy of the country. In 1970th years the major event became construction of the railroad line of Chard Zhou - Kungrad- Beyneu by extent of 1025 kilometers which has been entered into operation in 1972, having opened the vital second output in the European part of the country. Uzbekistan is a link between the East and the West, therefore construction of new transport communications (in particular, railway) in republic is rather actual. The basic vendor of railway services is the State-joint-stock railway company of «O’zbekiston temir yo’llari» formed on November 7, 1994 on the basis of the former Central Asian railway located in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The general developed length of the main ways of the company today makes about 3645 kilometers. In the company works more than 54,7 thousand workers. The annual cargo turnover of the company makes about 90 % from a total cargo turnover of all transport types. Daily about 10 thousand passengers use the railway. In the Passenger economy for last 10 years constructed and entered into operation railway stations at stations Andizhan, Margelan, Namangan, Karshi, Navoi, Urgench, Kyzyl - Tepe, Samarkand, Southern-Tashkent and Kitab. In city and regional centers it is expanded and reconstructed over 30 stations. The SJCRC «O’zbekiston temir yo’llari» since 1993 is a member of the Commonwealth Organization of Railways (CORW). The company has close relationship with the international union of railways (IURW) and the Economic commission of the UN for Asian - Pacific region (ECÊÀPÎ).
